Tragedy on Route 140 After Propane Truck Crash

An 18-year-old Emmitsburg woman died when her car hit a propane tanker on Route 140 three miles east of town. The crash blocked traffic for about 10 hours and prompted evacuations due to explosion fears. Christine Dillon was pronounced dead at 4:30 p.m. at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Unit.

Icy roads and fog trigger eight crashes statewide

Winter fog and icy roads in the county caused about eight traffic accidents on Wednesday morning. Three involved school buses. one Emmitsburg woman died in an unrelated collision. Multiple vehicles sustained light to severe damage, with no serious injuries beyond the fatality.

Warner Hospital seeks mobil CT scanner to cut costs

Adams County Planning Commission backs Warner Hospital request to join Hanover Chambersburg and Waynesboro Hospitals in buying a $1.4 million mobile CT scanner. The unit would serve eight counties, perform about 1,105 scans annually, and cut patient costs from about 350 to 300 dollars per scan. A multi hospital corporation will finance and operate the van mounted system with fee for service charges.

Mt Joy delays on township formation

Mt Joy Township Supervisors referred a state association letter to their solicitor asking whether to form a second class township in Lake Heritage using parts of Mt Joy Mt Pleasant and Straban Townships. Ed Fleming asked how the area could incorporate and a Blue Ribbon Committee report is awaited. Concerns included potential land expansion and sewer prospects.

Prominent Air Force General Nominee from Gettysburg Area

Former resident Col Stanton R Musser, long time Air Force veteran and Gettysburg native, will become brigadier general and vice commander of the Ogden Air Logistics Center Utah. Born 1936 in Lewisburg he earned degrees from Gettysburg College and Central Michigan University and flew 4800 hours in F-100 F-4 and F-16 aircraft with 177 combat missions in Vietnam. He is married to Dawn Burg and has three children.
