Oakside Park Plans Two Public Meetings on Future Developments

Oakside Community Park will hold two public meetings for Upper Adams County residents to review plans for a children’s play area and an outdoor amphitheatre. The Jan 19 meeting at 7:30 p.m. in the Biglerville Gettysburg National Bank Community Room will feature Kish Orr Associates and park volunteers. The Feb 2 meeting will discuss the amphitheatre, with input from local groups and residents.

Littlestown Commission Weighs Rezoning Area For Townhouses

The Littlestown Planning Commission agreed to consider a rezoning request by Baltimore developer Simon Singer for about 9 acres of residential land as part of a multi phase plan in the boroughs southwest corner. A public hearing is planned for March after the commission reaffirmed a Te zoning condition and also discussed a Rt 120 land rezoning for a used car lot and garage with drainage and state roadway approvals pending.

Snow blankets county as snowplows hit roads

A slow snowfall blankets the county with four inches in the mountains and about 12 inches in areas near Gellvs eet. Snow forecasts predict rain this afternoon then a return of snow this evening. Plows and salters began at 3 a.m. No roads closed and schools postponed or late. State Police report one minor accident due to slick roads. Drivers urged to slow down and drive carefully.

Robert Zellner To Direct All State Band

Gettysburg College music professor Robert F. Zellner will conduct the Pennsylvania All-State Band at the three day PA MEA convention finale in Philadelphia. The band draws high school musicians from across the state and attracts educators, parents, and friends. This marks Zellner’s first appearance as conductor of the All-State Band.

Offshore Booms Shake Charleston Area

Booms similar to December blasts rocked walls and shattered windows in Charleston. Residents phoned police newsrooms and switchboards with reports of the mysterious noises midafternoon Thursday. No injuries reported. Mrs Jerry Young near Charleston said she felt the booms and called it the worst.

Burglars Steal Mannequin and Clothes at T and Menswear

Gettysburg Borough Police report a break in at T and Menswear Inc. 22 Baltimore overnight causing about 190 dollars damage and stealing men's clothing worth around 220 dollars. This was the store's second break in in five weeks. Police also noted a prior incident with a half mannequin and clothing valued near 260. In a separate break in at Adams Hanover Area Sheltered Workshop, 257 X Fourth St., an estimated 313 in change was taken from two coffee machines.

Firefighters Battle Chimney Fire at James Strausbaugh Home

Bonneauville volunteers responded to a chimney fire at James Strausbaugh’s home near the Firehouse at 7:49 p.m. Flames shot from the chimney as a crew used about two and a half gallons of water to extinguish the blaze. Sparks from the fireplace apparently triggered the fire. The fire remained confined to the chimney walls.
