Gettysburg Firemen Deny Refusal To Respond To Alarm

Gettysburg Fire Chief Gerald White clarified that the department never refuses alarms. An error by the Adams County Control Center dispatched other towns to a Martin residence chimney fire, while Gettysburg should have responded. Rumors of a refusal were unfounded. Martins were informed and the issue resolved. Ambulance corps reported 1,309 emergency and route calls in 1977, with 6,000 plus volunteer hours and 796 emergency runs.

LCA Funds Program to Aid Gettysburg College and Churches

Gettysburg College receives a 3.70 plant from the Lutheran Church in America to support a campus outreach program. Faculty staff and students will conduct seminars at area congregations and groups on topics including Lutheran history Bible study ethics and aging. The plan, approved by LCA, aims to build ties between the college and local churches with potential future grants.

Hereford Hereford Area Farmers Win Top Honors at State Farm Show

Area farmers dominated the Hereford classes at the 62nd State Farm Show on Wednesday. Royal Liege from Spring Bottom Farms Fairfield R 2 won the grand beef championship and was junior champion as well. Pigeon Hill Farm Abbottstown R 1 showed BHLI Real 126 as band champion and junior champion. Grand champion beef female went to PH Miss Northern 166 from Pigeon Hill Farm, with reserve grand to PH Miss Northern 26 shown by Harris B. Wright.

Fay Senseney Recognizes Family At Hershey Medical Center

Gettysburg report states Fay Senseney, a Gettysburg High School sophomore, regained consciousness and recognizes family members after being treated at Hershey Medical Center since December for Reye's Syndrome. She remains in serious condition with pneumonia as of this morning.

Ambulance Maps Nearly Complete

Adams County ambulance corps aims to finalize territorial maps for the 13 counties served, at a meeting Monday evening in the McSherrystown Fire Co social hall. Each corps should send two representatives to sign the new response area agreement and provide two names with phone numbers to receive routine call information for Adams County Control Center.

General Boyson Retires After Distinguished Military Career

Gen William A Boyson, retired Jan 1, commanded Tripier Army Medical Center since July 15, 1974. Gettysburg native and Gettysburg College graduate, he earned an MD from University of Pennsylvania in 1930 and an MS in obstetrics from Baylor in 1957. He held top Army medical posts and will reside in Hawaii, continuing to teach at John A Burns School of Medicine and directing obstetrics gynecology residency at Queen’s Medical Center.

Miss Hope Candidates Sought for Adams County Event

The Miss Hope program will be held Jan 22 at 2 pm at the Lutheran Home on Biglerville Rd. Licensed practical nurses registered nurses or nursing students in Adams County may refer a Miss Hope candidate. Susan Waylight, RN at Warner Hospital and former Miss Hope, chairs the program. Nurses or students should contact the Adams County Cancer Office at 3345353 for information and registration. Miss Hope, chosen Jan 2, will attend the Miss Hope Ball at Carroll Valley Golf Clubhouse. Circulation Manager Wins Three Awards

McKnight Guise, circulation manager of The Gettysburg Times, won a certificate from the Higher-Mitchell Co of St Laws for Outstanding Promotion of International Newspaper Carrier Day. Sale Drive To Provide Fuel To Needy In County

A cooperative effort by South Central Corr needs Indridi and Commity Action Agency aims to raise funds for an Emergency Energy Fund. A plant sale and a two hour auction are set for Saturday at the American Legion building on Baltimore St with donations to fuel aid.
