Bosnian Serb military leader said Sunday his forces would not lift the blockade of Sarajevo until government troops withdraw from more territory on a strategic mountain south of the city. The stance endangers a four month truce and follows talks between Gen. Ratko Mladic and U N commander Lt. Gen. Sir Michael Rose.

Perry warns Iran could become nuclear power

In Jerusalem Defense Secretary William Perry urged curbing atomic weapon spread or risk of nuclear blackmail. He said the United States is concerned Iran could become a nuclear power and opposed any Russian assistance that might advance a nuclear Iran.

Casey reflects on Farmland Preservation as farming legacy

In his final Farm Show appearance Governor Casey praised the Farmland Preservation Program as his administration's top agricultural policy. He cited 60 000 acres protected on 485 farms across 30 counties via a 100 million bond, with Adams County's easements totaling 25 farms and 4 537 acres funded by 5.8 million state money and over 1 million in county matching funds. He warned once land is gone it cannot be replaced.

Pennsylvania Farm Show Agriculture Heritage Day Schedule

The schedule for Pennsylvania Farm Show highlights daily events from 8 am to 9 pm featuring beef cattle judging in three rings, cooking demonstrations in the West Lobby, and major contests such as the Sheep to Shawl, Sheep to Shawl Auction, and Folk Dance Festival. Gettysburg deer herd reduction debate draws crowd at NPS meeting

At Gettysburg National Park Service hearing 90 residents crowded the meeting to discuss a proposed East Coast deer herd reduction. Dave Clark of Littlestown urged a $500 fee for licensed hunters to shoot a prize buck on the battlefield, with others supporting and questioning costs and volunteer options. He suggested bows and arrows to minimize deer disturbance during cull.

Gettysburg deer plan heads toward court after public meeting

Gettysburg National Military Park Superintendent John Latschar expects the deer herd reduction plan to face court challenges. The meeting showed mixed views with supporters for licensed controlled shooting and others citing safety and deer viewing concerns. Safety remains the priority as areas may close and kills occur before battlefield hours. The battlefield, a federal historic site since 1895, was not designed for hunting or deer watching, and deer activity will change with the plan.
