Walter Henry Danforth 83, longtime Gettysburg dentist, died Saturday at Lancashire Hall Neffsville Pa. He practiced 34 years in Gettysburg retiring in 1954. Survived by wife Mildred Morgans Danforth and two nieces. Funeral Wednesday at 3 p.m. Fred F Groft Funeral Home Lancaster with interment in Greenwood Cemetery Bristol Vt.

Countians In Program At Pa Farm Show
Adams County participants helped open the 62nd Pennsylvania Farm Show in Harrisburg. About 9,000 attended the Sunday program, with Lt. Gov. Ernest P. Kime and Agriculture Secretary Kent D. Shelhamer leading a farm show tour. Deborah Marie Lott, Miss Apple Queen USA, presented them with apples. Brenda Lee Starner, Pennsylvania Red Cherry Queen, offered a cherry pie. Aluminum Recycling Unit Here Thursday
The Reynolds Co. mobile recycling unit will be at North Gettysburg and Center on Harrisburg Rd north of here Thursday Jan 12 from 11 a.m. to noon. Since 1967 its recycling program has collected over 464 million pounds of aluminum and paid out more than 64 million dollars to the public. The program operates 150 mobile units in 45 states and DC. Reynolds pays 17 cents a pound for all aluminum items including cans siding gutters storm doors window frames and lawn furniture cut to three feet.

Piney Mountain Home Dedicates New $2 Million Facility
Piney Mountain Home for the Aged celebrated the dedication of its new $2 million housing facility. Administrator Charles Kind said the home has moved from the dark ages into modern times as hundreds gathered for the ceremony and open house to replace the old stone structure serving Adams and Franklin Counties for 25 years. Dr. Leonard Bachman urged that caring remains essential in health care, noting non profit church related homes uphold different values while urging adequate nursing home care nationwide.

Wood Stove Fires Damage Two Farm Homes in Weekend Blazes
Over the weekend two farm homes near Littlestown and Bonneauville suffered wood stove related fires. James Martin’s two and a half story home on Rt 116 north of Two Taverns incurred about 500 pounds in damage from a rafters and chimney fire. Lawrence Murcay’s farm home on the New Oxford Bonneauville road saw a second floor blaze in a bedroom, with about 300 pounds in damage. A Volkswagen on Rt 116 was gutted when an engine fire spread, with firefighters preventing a gasoline blast.

Chritzman Dies Former Gettysburg Jeweler at 64
Alexis W. Chritzman 64 of 117 King Gettysburg died Sunday night at Warner Hospital after a three day stay. A WWII veteran he served with the 4th Infantry Division in Europe including Normandy and earned the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He operated Chritzman’s Jewelry Store on Chambersburg Street for years, later taking over in 1953 and closing in 1986. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church Gettysburg Elks and American Legion Post 202. Funeral services Wednesday at 2 p.m. from Monahan Funeral Home Cartisti Street with Rev. Donald Olson officiating. interment Evergreen Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday evening at the funeral home with Elks ritual at 3 p.m.
