Administration proposes health care system study

The Reagan administration set up two task forces to study and propose changes to the national health care system. Lynn May, deputy assistant secretary for public affairs, said costs have risen dramatically since 1975 and that consumer choice and competition will be encouraged to slow inflation.

IRS cutbacks cancel Gettysburg tax aid visit

An IRS representative who assisted residents with tax forms will not visit Gettysburg this year due to federal cutbacks. No forms are available at the borough office. Borough Manager Charles Sterner notes many residents call for the visit, but information can still be obtained by calling 800 462 4000.

Vets to be honored with listing at old courthouse

Adams County to place honorary veteran listings on walls of the old courthouse naming local heroes from Korea and Vietnam. James D. Fox urged residents to submit missing names and to report Vietnam casualties while noting lost state records. The 22nd District American Legion meets January 17 at Gettysburg Post.

Seminar on church and social needs in Adams County

Aspirin May Prolong Life Says Georgetown Researcher

Estelle Ramey of Georgetown University presented at AAAS that regular aspirin may reduce heart attacks and strokes in both men and women. She suggested one aspirin daily for men and a half for women on certain dosing, noting the need for fluid intake and uncertainty about optimal dose.
