The February Biglerville PTA meeting featured the debut of a rhythm band from three lower grades directed by Miss Maybelle Lady and Miss Helen Lower. The uniforms impressed, with girls in white dresses and red capes and hats, and boys in dark trousers white blouses and red capes.
The Gettysburg Mothers' club held a Wednesday afternoon meeting at Mrs. John G. Glenn’s Lincoln Avenue home with associate hostess Mrs. Guilé W. Lefever. Members presented talks on George Washington’s life as part of the birth bicentennial celebration.
Eight year old Glenn Heller of Menallen township has scarlet fever. The Heller home is under quarantine by county health officer John Deatrick of Bigierville. He is the third Brysonia school pupil to contract the illness.
Robert Herman of Pottstown will preach at A M E Zion Church on South Washington Street Sunday afternoon at three o clock. The service is open to the public. Partly cloudy tonight with Saturday fair and little temperature change.

Samuel E. Topper procery man died at his Hanover home Wednesday evening at 10 44 due to complications. He was 71, born April 2 1860, son of Ephraim and Catherine Weaver Topper. Survived by wife Alice Jane and four children, fifteen grandchildren, two brothers, one sister. Funeral Monday at St Joseph's Hanover with burial Conewago chapel cemetery Edge Grove.
The House approved the conference report on the Glass-Steagall bill expanding federal reserve credit. The measure now goes to the Senate for approval before becoming law.
Venezuelan revolutionary Rafael de Nogales charges that President Gomez stole General Paez’s sword from Caracas and gave it to General Pershing, who reportedly kept it in the State Department vault awaiting congressional action. Nogales cites Latin American protests as context for the claim.
Mary Elizabeth Basehear 7, Littlestown, admitted Thursday night for appendicitis and operated on immediately with her condition reported good. Also admitted was Charles Schonder from Mt. St. Mary’s college Emmitsburg. Lea Nentz Fairfield and Mrs Theodore Younglove with infant son and Mrs Joan Clap saddle, Gettysburg, were discharged.
Robert Johnson son of Mr and Mrs Daniel Johnson of West Middle Street underwent a third operation at Jefferson Hospital Philadelphia to remove his left eye after an arrow pierced it last December. He had been a patient since January 5 and two prior operations failed to save the eye. The arrow was fired by playmate Harry Tawney. Vision in the right eye remains unaffected and the youth will stay in hospital about a week or ten days.

La Reina Raffensperger of Bitterville sprained her left ankle during gym class Thursday. She was taken to Warner hospital for an X-ray that showed no fracture and she returned home. Stocks rallied slowly in New York after an early setback with declines turning to gains in the second hour.
Cardinal Dougherty of Philadelphia has signified his intention to accompany the Philadelphia pilgrimage to Ireland for the thirty first International Eucharistic Congress next June.
A benefit basketball game Wednesday night at Eddie Plank gym, featuring Charlestown American Legion quintet and Fleet Wing, backs the Annie M Warner hospital. Proceeds fund a new kitchen and water plant. Reserved seats 75 cents. general admission 50 cents. children 12 and under 15 cents.
The Albert J. Lentz American Legion post sent a Washington delegation to invite General John J. Pershing to speak at the May 30 1933 Memorial Day exercises. Pershing was ill but the invitation was conveyed and flowers sent. The group then met with Rep Harry L Haines and Rep John E Rankin in Capitol Hill. The Gettysburg Adams County delegation included John P Butt William B Eckenrode Clarence G Hilty James Washburn Arthur Brame and others.
State highway department will rebuild a 47 foot wooden bridge on the Fairfield to Zora road after an inspection found it too weak for heavy traffic. Bids will be received soon for a two-span concrete replacement capable of handling the heaviest loads.
Miss Grace Bosserman daughter of Mr and Mrs Cletus E Bosserman of Heidi ersburg and teacher at Hickory Point school Huntington township married Rev Murray L Wagner of Baltimore son of Mr and Mrs Elmer T Wagner Glen Rock on Thursday in New York City. The bride attended York Springs and Harrisburg high schools and graduated from Elizabethtown college in 1931. She taught in Reading and Huntington townships before college. The groom studied at Blue Ridge college New Windsor and Elizabethtown college and currently pastors Church of the Brethren in Liberty Heights Baltimore. They will reside in Baltimore.
More than 100 women attend the Gettysburg chapter of the Woman’s League of Gettysburg College meeting at Christ Lutheran church. Mrs. Henry W. A. Hanson and co chair Mrs. J E Musselman led the program with colonial costumes and relatives of the Washington family featured. Refreshments were served by colonial hostesses as small American flags were given to guests. Mrs. Robert Fortenbaugh, the president, announced the April 5 meeting and the May 3 season finale with a list of hostesses for the latter.
The Gettysburg Chamber of Commerce will reconvene Monday night in the Hotel Gettysburg annex at 7 45 o’clock. All members are urged to attend as important community and chamber matters will be discussed.

The Spring primary set for Tuesday April 26 allows the Republican Democratic and Prohibition parties to nominate for national and state offices. Republicans elect delegates to the national convention and county officials. Democrats choose delegates and district officers. Prohibition names two state committee members and both at large and alternate delegates to its national convention.
Dr. R S Saby, Gettysburg College economist, surveyed his Carlisle Street attic finds to count Washington likeness stamps in his collection. He discovered seven cancelled stamps of varied denominations, the oldest a three cent postmarked 1856, noting three cents then equaled two today.
