Buchanan Valley fire unit fails in bid for recognition

Adams County Court ordered Franklin Township supervisors not biased in denying official status to the Buchanan Valley Volunteer Fire Company. Judge Oscar F. Spicer ruled the firefighters failed to prove the officials acted against the town’s interest, citing factors like public support, finances, insurance, and distance from other fire services. The 1972 group, about 100 volunteers with two operating trucks, argued for incorporation and funding options, but the court found the township likely could not sustain two fire companies.
