Cheese giveaway set for Saturday in Adams County

South Central Community Action Program will distribute 600 packages of surplus American cheese in Adams County. Distribution runs 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the former High Street School in Gettysburg. Eligibility requires a welfare, food stamp, SSI, or medical assistance card. Each family may receive one pack. housebound delivery available. If cheese remains, a second date may be announced. State Ag Secretary notes a toll free line 1 800 932 0904 and adds Reagan will release 70 million more pounds of surplus cheese.

Snowstorm Hits County With Snow Beyond Five Inches

A large snowstorm swept into the area Wednesday afternoon, leaving more than five inches of snow by evening. Roads were slick and some meetings canceled, with school and activities uncertain. Five minor school bus mishaps occurred without injuries as buses skidded off roads. Route 15 traffic paused for hours after a three-vehicle pileup caused by a Buick Coupe. Sniper kills three in California trailer park attack

Three people died and at least three others were wounded in a trailer park shooting in Chula Vista California. A man in his 40s was taken into custody after a four hour manhunt. Deputy Robert Brown and Deputy Linda Harman were among those injured as officers used tear gas and an armored van to reach a gunman who had fired with a shotgun rifle and pistol. Local elementary students were sheltered as police secured the area and retrieved a woman's body from a driveway.
