Gettysburg Firemen Report 276 Calls In Year

Gettysburg Fire Dept logged 276 fire calls with one death, $80 369 in losses, and $5597376 in properties threatened during the past year. Chief Gerald cited 1 million in threatened properties and 245 475 damages for 1976. Henri G Schafer died of smoke inhalation in his Cadillac parked at Adams County Library. Firemen responded to hab 18 chimney and 66 structure fires in 1977, plus 78 traffic accidents, 34 car fires, 2 grass and woods blazes, 5 false alarms, and 19 fire alarm malfunctions. Distribution of calls across townships listed. Chief White attributed lower losses to strong fire prevention, ladder track, pumper operation, and ambulances responding to 1200 calls.

Second Attempt To Blow Up Pipeline

In Fairbanks Alaska troopers report a second attempt to sabotage the trans-Alaska pipeline. A 20 foot fuse and a black stain in the snow indicate the act. A hole in a 13 inch steel line caused thousands of barrels of Prudhoe Bay crude to spill over the tundra. The mile long pipeline was shut down and flow reduced after the incident.
