Mired motorist returns to find car burned after aid call

A Hanover motorist found his 1973 Chevrolet coupe burned in a private Maple Grove Road drive after going to seek help for a snowbound car. Firefighters from Abbottstown and neighboring units extinguished the blaze in the engine compartment and interior. Additional weekend fires included car blazes in Gettysburg parking lot and Littlestown incident, chimneys at multiple homes, and a basement fire under investigation.

G Warren Elliott was named assistant director of South Central Community Action Programs Inc Gettysburg. Former program manager for Franklin County Manpower Planning he oversaw a 3 million dollar program. Elliott, a Shippensburg State College graduate, earned a masters from Shippensburg and held internships with Carlisle borough and Pennsylvania State Association of. He was selected from 50 applicants and resides in Saint Thomas Franklin County.

Water Tank Floods McSherrystown Street

A 12 inch transmission line cracked flooding the 500 block of North Street and drenching North Street and Oxford Avenue in McSherrystown Sanders Hill area. About 250000 gallons escaped into cellars and ice formed. water pressure lost boroughwide for nearly 24 hours as Hanover Municipal Water Works crews worked to drain and repair the line. Fire company workers pumped cellars and cleared debris while streets were closed and repairs aimed for Sunday morning restoration at about 9 a.m.

SPCA Session On Tuesday At 7 30 Pm

The Adams County SPCA board of directors and membership will meet with county commissioners and municipal officials Tuesday at 7 30 p.m. in the courthouse to discuss proposed construction of a county animal shelter. Prevention Of Crime Week Observed In Gettysburg

National Crime Prevention Week is observed in Gettysburg under the Exchange Club. Mayor Charles Lightner signed a proclamation urging observance through February 18 to focus on crime prevention and citizen participation in the club’s program. Sgt. Russell Potter will speak at Gerystare High School at noon Tuesday and again at the Exchange Club meeting Tuesday evening at the Lamp Post Restaurant.

Car Slams Snow Bank Injuring Three New Oxford Men

Three New Oxford area men were treated at Hanover Hospital after their 1964 Ford sedan left Rt 4 two and a half miles south of Cross Keys, struck a snow bank, and overturned at 8 p.m. Sunday.
