Nuclear alert at Luzerne plant in Berwick Pennsylvania

Technicians investigated a 6 percent hour emergency at the Susquehanna nuclear plant after circuit breakers failed during a routine safety test. Unit 1 shutdown for repair, Unit 2 remained at full power. No radiation release or injuries were reported. The incident prompted a level two alert.

Alan Funk a rare one passes away at twenty

T W Burger recalls Alan Funk a Penn State Altoona student who died after a bone marrow transplant and radiation therapy for leukemia. The piece portrays his unyielding optimism, faith, and courage, and honors the Funk family including Gene and Joyce. Alan died early Saturday in an Iowa hospital, five years after diagnosis, 48 days before his 20th birthday.

Gettysburg High School inducts 29 into NHS

Twenty nine Gettysburg High School students were inducted into the National Honor Society in Reigle Auditorium. Senior members listed include Michael Simpson president and Allen Larson vice president among others. Dr Dorothy Bollinger gave the keynote. Inductees were chosen by a faculty council for high scholarship service leadership and character. The group supports tutoring Heart Association Great American Smokeout and a Smithsonian trip.
