M C Jones Gettysburg civic leader dies in Florida
Millard C Jones of Herrs Ridge Road Gettysburg died Sunday evening in Fort Lauderdale Florida born August 3 1887 in York County son of George and Anna Sweitzer Jones. He owned and managed several Gettysburg furniture firms and a lumber wholesale business. He donated the MC Jones Foundation chaired the Gettysburg Rotary Club and served as director of Adams County National Bank. He was involved with The Gettysburg Times and held numerous local memberships. Graveside services at Mt Olivet Cemetery Thursday with memorials to Adams County Heart Association Public Library and YWCA.

Dover Man Arrested After Kidnapping Report No Help
Clayton Dame of Dover was abducted in early January by three armed men in New Jersey and released near Gettysburg. He later told police he knew two of his captors, leading to a false report arrest. Police sketched suspects, identified two as Randy Golder and Micheal Aekins of Indiana, while the third remained unnamed. Dame faced a $500 fine for the false report. He claimed the assailants robbed him of $250 in cash an $79 check and a teal box and fired at him during the escape along a Pennsylvania highway.

Adams County Fire Marshal John W. Murren ruled the Wenksville two story home fire started by a defective chimney or stovepipe at the rear. The $100,000 brick house owned by Thomas Beamer was in ruins after about two hours of effort with 75 firefighters, ice, and a tanker shuttle supplying water.
