Deb Hurt Named Adams County Nurse of Hope 1982

Deb Hurt 22, a Warner Hospital nurse, won the 1982 Adams County nurse of hope at a Gettysburg Country Club program sponsored by the Adams County Unit of the American Cancer Society. She succeeds 1981 nurse Wendy Becker. First runner up was Helen Helfrick with other contestants Debra Beaver Tina Laughman and Barbara Lookinghill. The event featured Drs and a master of ceremonies with Miss Hurt to attend the Nurse of Hope Ball February 20 at Gettysburg Country Club.

Gettysburg plans 17 Sundays of bandshell entertainment

A Recreation Park Board committee aims to fill 17 Sundays this summer at the new Gettysburg Recreation Park bandshell opening May 9 and closing Labor Day weekend. Funding limits may limit acts, so sponsors will be sought. The plan includes family friendly programs with the Gettysburg High School Band and Cross and Flame Singers.

New Oxford Man Killed In Route 30 Head-On Crash

A New Oxford area man, James R. Hartman 23, died when his 1971 sedan crossed into the westbound lanes of Route 30 five miles east of Gettysburg and collided head-on with a tractor trailer. Robert L. Weaver 27 of Sissonville WV, driver of the truck, was uninjured. Hartman was pronounced dead at the scene by Adams County Coroner Dr. Robert Lefever. Traffic was halted about 90 minutes as responders cleared the wreckage. Police offered no stated cause and noted it was Adams County's first fatal accident of the year.

Fahnestock House Celebrates French Second Empire Heritage

A letter from Morris Fahnestock Sheldon to Historic Gettysburg-Adams County recalls his grandfather Henry J Fahnestock builder of the Washington and Middle Streets home. The eight children knew him as grandfather and the house is pictured at the turn of the century. The property features a distinctive mansard roof and is cited as a fine example of French Second Empire architecture.
