Harry James Brantner, 25, of Fairfield K I, was convicted in Adams County Court of first degree murder for the November 1976 Cashtown cabin deaths of Robert Willaff and Julia Egnatowsky. He received two consecutive life sentences after the death penalty was ruled unconstitutional. An automatic appeal is noted. defense argued for concurrent sentences, citing heat of passion and mental disability.

Joel Weisberg director of the Bureau of Consumer Protection spoke on Future Consumer Protection for Pennsylvania at an Adams County Council for the Aged meeting in the North Gettysburg office of Adams County National Bank. He cited budget cuts forcing a closure then reopening of an office and warned against spreading funds thin. He described reduced staff from 30 to 0 and said public brochures would nearly stop due to funds. He urged consumers to inspect door to door deals mail order and drug purchases and to beware private salesmen offering hearing aids. Mrs Myrtle LeVan retires from LeVans Fashions on Baltimore Street after 33 years in business. The Gettysburg resident, widow of Alfred R. LeVan, plans to visit family in Manhattan Beach California and enjoy gardening and birds in retirement. The shop will be replaced by The Apple Tree Boutique run by Jack and Jean Inskip with similar stock.
