Arthur J. Roth, Former VFW Leader, Dies in York
Arthur J. Roth aged 60 of 913 Madison Ave York formerly Gettysburg died Saturday morning on arrival at Newent Osteopathic Hospital after heart failure and lifelong service in veterans groups. He worked as social services director at Memorial Osteopathic Hospital and served in the military police in World War II. Surviving are wife Oma Furner three sons Jeffrey Gregory Anthony and two daughters Rebecca and Melissa plus five brothers and a sister. Funeral Mass at St Francis Xavier Church Tuesday with military rites by Gettysburg VFW and American Legion and memorials to the American Heart Association. Funeral home Reilly of York in charge.

A preliminary Gettysburg fire probe cites an overloaded overheated furnace as the cause of a trailer fire at Schaif's Mobile Home Court. Timothy E Baker, wife Betty, and four month old Candice Lynne escaped uninjured as the $20,000 damage total remained. The Bakers stayed with Rev. Ernest Baker in Westminster.

Pleasant Valley Maryland home sustained heavy wall damage from a fire of undetermined origin that began just before 6 am. Littlestown Fire Company assisted Pleasant Valley and Reese fire crews at the blaze in a log home four miles south of the Pennsylvania state line. The fire caused no injuries as occupants escaped, and crews remained on scene until 9 30 am with Westminster Fire Company on standby. A car owned by Terry Dickert of Greenstone was destroyed Sunday afternoon at 3 30, with Fountaindale firemen spending 45 minutes at the property to extinguish the blaze believed caused by a related incident.
