Fire damages Pontiac wagon after carburetor failure near York Springs
Paul Brandt of Main St York Springs lost control of his 1968 Pontiac Station wagon when a carburetor malfunction caused a fire on U S Rt 15 near Worley's Nursery two miles north of York Springs at 6 16 p m Tuesday. Firemen arrived to find the engine compartment in flames and the dashboard gnawed by heat. Brandt had just refueled the car and was driving when the fire started. Brandt used his CB radio to summon aid before the wires burned and police relayed the alarm to the York Springs fire department. The car was disabled by the fire.

Four Injured In Area Accidents Including Hit Run Tractor
Four people were injured in area traffic incidents, two seriously. Alice Heineman of East Berlin was treated at Hannover Hospital after a car she rode in was struck by a hit and run farm tractor on L.R.U1008 near Hampton at 9 p.m. Tuesday. The tractor left the scene. Lisa Orndorff, 17, Gettysburg Route 8, was in satisfactory condition at Warner Hospital after her 1970 Pinto veered, struck an embankment on White Hall Road near Littlestown at 12:20 p.m. Tuesday. Randall Naugle, 22, Orrtanna, and Orrtanna resident, was admitted to Warner Hospital after his car hit a tree on St Carmel Road two miles south of Orrtanna at 11:39 a.m. Tuesday. Joseph Mallette, 31, Hanover, was also treated at Warner Hospital following injuries from a separate incident.

Head Start Center Opens at Fairfield Parish Church

Hot Candle Ignites Small Fire Near Gettysburg Home
A Tuesday night fire in Arcandolle at Francis Herring’s residence on Business Rt. 13 near Gettysburg caused a small blaze in a living room after a candle melted on a coffee table. Herring extinguished the flames before firefighters from Greenmount Gettysburg and others arrived. Fire units also responded to a smoke investigation at Judy Raymond’s home on Rs. 392 near New Oxford.
