Funeral arrangements are set for 18 year old Haye Lanny of 218 Ewell Ave who died from injuries sustained in a Saturday crash on the Fairfield Orrianna Road the third traffic fatality on county roads this year. Services will begin with a Monahan Funeral Home visit this evening and Rosary, then a Mass at St Francis Xavier Church at 9 Wednesday with Rev William Haviland presiding. Interment will be at the church cemetery.

Holiday highway toll fills grim tally of 433 deaths
The Associated Press reports 433 people died in auto accidents during the holiday weekend, a figure lower than the holiday record. The National Safety Council warned 408 to 506 may die on streets and highways between 6 p.m. Friday and midnight. A severe incident occurred in New York where a hit and run killed returning travelers from Chicago. Last year’s three day period logged 397 highway deaths.

Auto Accidents During Holiday Near Abbottstown
Motorists suffered injuries in a head on collision on Rt 154 two miles south of Abbottstown at 8 30 a m. A 24 year old woman from Spring Grove and a 24 year old Hanover man were hospitalized after their 1972 Pontiac Firebird and 197 Thunderbird collided. Police reported three single car crashes on county roads over the weekend with several drivers falling asleep at the wheel. One crash near Mt Pleasant damaged a 1970 Chevrolet Camaro and a 1977 Toyota sustained light damage. A 16 year old Gettysburg resident died when his 1974 Chevrolet collided with a bridge abutment on Rt 34 three miles north of town. Gettysburg firemen assisted at the scenes.
