Christmas Mail Breaks Records At Gettysburg Post Office
Postmaster G A Williams said the Gettysburg post office saw its busiest Christmas season with extra clerks and parcel postmen handling sacks of mail for peak delivery. On Thursday about 28 000 pieces of mail were cancelled and daily activity rose to around 4 000 106 000. December receipts through Thursday evening were about 20 percent above the same period in 1938.

Berlin December 22 AP Two passenger trains crowded with Christmas travelers collided in a sta iler at Genthin about 45 miles southwest of Berlin. Gettysburg fire company will stage its annual Kiddies Christmas party at 7 p.m. at the engine house on East Middle street. Two elderly Emmitsburg widows aged 80 and 74 died within a day from complications of diseases. Elias Knippie, 88, retired farmer, died Thursday morning.
