Desert Shield salute for Sgt Shank in Middle East

The Times salutes Army Sergeant Scott A Shank of Littlestown Pennsylvania as he completes his Desert Shield tour with the 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood based unit in Saudi Arabia. He is a drafting trained serviceman, married with two children, and hopes to become a civilian draftsman after June. He has previous Air Force service and has been in Saudi Arabia since late September.

Gettysburg Hotel Eyes May Opening

Gettysburg Hotel moves toward a mid May opening as about 60 percent of restoration is finished under General Manager Roger H. Robinson. The project aims to revive downtown Gettysburg with 22 suites, 61 guest rooms, meeting space, and a local business revival, employing about 45 people.

Adams County commissioners fix six year salary plan

Adams County commissioners adopted an ordinance to fix salaries for all elected county officers for six years. Raises were restructured so no increases in 1991 and 1992, then a 10 percent rise in 1994, using 1991 salaries as base. Base figures include commissioners 29155, sheriff 26087, auditors 69.10 daily, clerk of courts 27087, and jury commissioners 4603.

County OKs 2.7 Million Tax Note For 1991

Adams County commissioners approve a 2.7 million tax revenue anticipation note to borrow operating funds at 5.75 percent from Adams County National Bank the lowest bid among four. Commissioner Collins says the plan saves money for taxpayers and yields extra income when repaid by year end. Also discussed were boundary changes to Conewago Township precincts to equalize voter numbers amid growth projections and confusing lines.

Best overall display named in Gettysburg Christmas contest

The Wagner home at Table Rock Road won best overall in the Gettysburg Garden Club Christmas Decoration Contest announced by the Garden Club and Retail Merchants Association. Judges reviewed entries Tuesday from residents and local businesses, naming top honors in traditional doorway religious artistic and children theme categories, with several runners up and honorable mention noted.
