Reagan Won’t Replace CIA Chief Casey As He Recovers

President Reagan has no plans to replace CIA Director William J. Casey while doctors report stability after a 54 hour operation to remove a malignant brain tumor. Georgetown Hospital said his post operative recovery is progressing satisfactorily. In Moscow Kremlin says dissident Andrei Sakharov and his wife have been pardoned and may return to Moscow from Gorky. Sakharov, Nobel Peace Prize winner, was banished in 1980 after criticizing Soviet Afghanistan intervention.

Prices rise 0.3 percent as consumer costs edge higher

The government reported Friday that consumer prices rose 0.3 percent in November, with gains driven by food and automobile costs while energy prices fell modestly. The report notes inflation remains driven by core items despite some price relief from energy.

Adams County to start airport feasibility study in 1987

A county planning director says an airport feasibility study will begin after the new year funded by FAA state and local grants. Audubon to hold 87th annual bird count in Adams County

Adams County hosts the 87th Audubon Society American Bird Count on December 27 with over 1,500 locations across the hemisphere. The local count, sponsored by South Mountain Audubon and centered on Knoxlyn, spans a 15 mile circle covering 177 square miles. In 1980s participation grew to 38,000 people observing 67 species and 16,478 birds.
