A two and a half story frame house occupied by blacksmiths Charles Mattern and Brenda Mattern burned at the intersection of Quaker Church and Ironstone Restour east of York Springs. Mattern sustained burns while attempting to rescue three cats as firemen arrived and the house and belongings were destroyed.
