Prosecution Planned For Four Welfare Fraud Cases

Harrisburg Atty. Gen. William C. Sennett approved charges against four central Pennsylvania residents for welfare fraud. Nathaniel Tyler Irving Cummings Ethel Mae Green and Mary Jackson allegedly collected welfare checks from Cumberland and Adams counties for two months and filed false statements. Tyler may face Cumberland County Court or higher penalties up to 1000 dollars fine and up to one year in jail.

Adams County agency urges Vo-Tech expansion and roving aid

The Adams County Community Action Agency board adopted a resolution urging school authorities to expeditiously establish a vocational technical school for the county. The agency plans to apply for federal funds to hire a roving aide to locate and assist poor families and arrange access to services and training opportunities. Housing plans progress with Interfaith Housing Corp and a note that the Migrant Opportunity program at Rendersville was defunded.

Candy Land Display Wins Biglerville Christmas Contest

"Candy Land" Display wins top lighting prize of 85 dollars in the annual Biglerville Christmas decoration contest. Judge results show Mr and Mrs Earl Rhodes and Mr and Mrs Jan Zeigler of an East York Street double house were recognized. The event was sponsored by the Biglerville Business Club.

Sp 5 Donald J. Taylor, a Purple Heart recipient from Biglerville, recounts his nine months in Vietnam and surviving a Phan Thiet ambush. He argues the war differs from past conflicts with civilians sometimes aiding Viet Cong, and warns enemies can be among the people.

Biglerville Christmas Decorations Prize Winners Named

The Biglerville Christmas decorations contest, with over 100 entries, crowned first prize for overall lighting to a W. York Street double house by Earl Rhodes Jan Zeigler and Earl Rhodes. The Hibbs home on Penn Street Extended won in doors and windows with angels and Noel. Other top placers included Robert E. Baker and George Eckenrode.

Allied Forces Heighten Alert for Viet Cong Anniversary Attacks

U S and South Vietnamese troops boosted vigilance as captured documents call for a spike in incidents to mark two Communist anniversaries. Tan Son Nhut Air Base took four rockets, injuring 17 including five children, while other hits damaged housing and military positions. Dawn patrols sought rocket sites northwest of Saigon as air raids rolled south of the capital.

Park Staff Gets New Supervisory Historian

Supervisory Historian Glenn L. Hinsdale, newly arrived from Richmond National Battlefield Park in Virginia, is appointed to Gettysburg National Military Park. He will oversee all operational phases of interpretative programs and the licensed guide operation under Thomas Harrison. Hinsdale holds a master's in School Administration and has 15 years as an educator plus training as a Park Service naturalist with prior tours at Craters of the Moon.

Gettysburg lodge of Elks Home announces closure from 6 p m December 24 to 3 p m December 26. Jaycees Endorse County Courthouse Plan At Jan Meeting

The local Jaycee chapter backs moving non court offices to the county home tract and supports renovating courthouse facilities. They call for moving the entire complex now to save costs and approve forming a campaign committee tied to a Gettysburg Theme. A $5 donation supports the Eisenhower Memorial Bible Fund and safety flares are sold to benefit the chapter.

J DeCosmo Dies Suddenly At 59 In Pa Hotel Owner

Joseph DeCosmo 59 owner of Rock Top Hotel at Cashtown died suddenly at 3 15 am at home. A World War II civilian employee at Pearl Harbor he had run the hotel 19 years. Survived by wife, daughter, stepdaughter, eight grandchildren, sister and brother. Funeral Monday at SS Ignatius Church Buchanan Valley with mass at 10 am. Burial in church cemetery.

Pitzer Named To Farmers Pa Council

John Pitzer of Aspers R I was named to the executive committee of the Pennsylvania State Council of Farm Organizations. The council also endorsed building a new Farm Show Building at a new site, noting parking and traffic concerns at the present location. Harold Ely, council president, said a renovated building on the current site would require a multi story structure. The meeting also heard a Sunday School program at Gettysburg Bible Church and a cantata Love Transcending by John Peterson.

Conferees Reach Tentative Tax Reform Bill Accord

Conferees from the House and Senate reached a tentative agreement on a tax reform package. The plan includes raising the personal income tax exemption to 750 dollars and scaling the standard deduction, with phased increases through 1972. Fairfield High School Christmas Concert Monday Evening

Fairfield Area High School musicians present a Christmas program under Mrs Betty Rex and Peter Riley. The Fifth and Sixth grade chorus directed by Mr Riley with Anne Dolly and Cindy Schultz accompanists perform a mix of carols. The Second and Third grade chorus directed by Mrs Rex perform well known tunes. Junior and Senior chorus feature Richard Straup paintings and Denice Pecher accompanist for The Christmas Tribute. The combined chorus performs Come All Ye Faithful Christians with art displays. The Annunciation to Mary features senior solos and multiple paintings from Renaissance masters.
