Meat firm tied to tainted lamb shipment indicted in Harrisburg

A New York City meat firm Meat House Inc and three men face a three count indictment in Harrisburg for shipping about 2900 pounds of adulterated lamb and goat carcasses. The meat was prepared without inspection in Chambersburg and sent to Meat House in Queens. The carcasses allegedly contained rodent fecal material insect fragments hair and ingesta. Defendants are Meat House Louis Moraitis Evangelous Moraitis and Robert Helman.

Jessica Tandy Returns to Stage After Collapse

Tony winner Jessica Tandy arrived at the Ahmanson Theater with Hume Cronyn, dancing briefly and saying she was glad to be back three days after collapsing during Foxfire. The couple greeted fans as Tandy stepped from a limo and performed a quick jig to express her joy.

First AIDS death of child linked to hemophiliac parent in Pa

Dwight Burk, 1 year old, believed to be the world s first child infected with AIDS from a hemophiliac parent, died at his Cresson home after hospitalization at Children s Hospital of Pittsburgh. His father Patrick Burk, who also has AIDS, said an autopsy would be done at the hospital for medical study. Exact cause of death was not yet known.

Californias Mild Quakes Hit Central Coast

Two mild earthquakes struck the central California coast near Gilroy on Friday. A 3.5 magnitude temblor followed minutes later by a 2.9 magnitude quake were recorded by UC Berkeley Seismographic Stations. No damage or injuries were reported. The epicenter lay seven miles west of Gilroy along the San Andreas Fault.

Wisconsin Senator Kasten faces DUI and traffic charges

Washington AP reports Senator Robert W. Kasten of Wisconsin was charged with driving under the influence, running a red light, and driving on the wrong side of the road. Police say an officer arrested him near his home after observing a traffic signal violation.

French engineer convicted of spying for Soviet Union

A 60-year-old engineer in Versailles was found guilty of spying for the Soviet Union and received a five-year suspended prison sentence. Robert Juge, arrested in March 1983, was convicted for delivering documents and equipment samples to a member of the Soviet commercial mission to France. The report also includes a weather outlook with windy, cold conditions and light snow flurries.

Water contamination blamed for child’s health in Mt Joy case

Two year old Crystal Joy Cole was born with no irises and kidney problems. Her mother Judy Cole accuses local state and federal authorities of inaction after contaminated water from Mt Joy Township home, linked to an old Wallace garage, fouled supply since 1982. Authorities delayed removing leaking gasoline tanks and failed to address a sewer system installed without permits.
