SCCAP eyes Gettysburg housing expansion to ease demand

Gettysburg sees a sharp shortage of affordable housing as SCCAP proposes converting the Eagles Lodge building on Chambersburg Street into rental units for low income families. Retirement rules shrink Pennsylvania State Police force

After a recent Supreme Court ruling, more than 150 troopers plan early retirement. Gettysburg’s 32 officers include three on narcotics duty. statewide 4,049 officers as of October face potential shortages. Some barracks report low retirements, others anticipate vacancies and possible manpower reallocations.

League hosts candidate workshop for Adams County primaries

The League of Women Voters of Adams County plans a municipal candidate workshop with Eileen Mathais as coordinator. The event is set for Saturday February 9 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Gettysburg YWCA to encourage citizen involvement as candidates or recruiters for local government. Officials cite poor voter turnout and sparse primary contests noting 1989 data shows 34 municipalities and county offices need hundreds of candidates, with about 700 needed for all posts.

Gettysburg Times to host holiday food drive with Bob Mathers

Gettysburg Times invites the public to donate food and paper products for SCCAP through December 14. WGET radio host Bob Mathers will broadcast live December 13 from 1 to 5 p.m. at 18 Carlisle St. Donations accepted 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. Cash gifts welcome. Free 16 word or less classified ad offered to donors of six cans.
