Actress Anne Baxter, known for a five decade career and an Academy Award winning role in The Razor's Edge, died at Lenox Hill Hospital at age 62 after a cerebral hemorrhage suffered eight days earlier on Madison Avenue. Her lawyer Henry Perles said she never regained consciousness.
Gov. Dick Thornburgh says after six months of consideration he will not run for the U.S. Senate in 1986. He plans to stay in public life after his second term as Pennsylvania governor ends January 1987 and will not challenge incumbent Arlen Specter in the Republican primary.
Washington AP reports Democratic leaders resist Republican demands for concessions, lowering prospects the big tax overhaul bill can pass the House this year despite President Reagan's support. A day of White House arm twisting yielded limited GOP support, with many votes tied to concessions before backing the measure.
In Nicosia Cyprus a court found Briton Ian Michael Davison and Palestinians Khalet Abdel Kader el Khatib and Abdel Hakim Saado al Khalifa guilty of killing three Israelis aboard a yacht in a Cyprus marina last September.
