Mrs Mamie Eisenhower will return to Gettysburg Thursday at 11 AM for a dedication ceremony. A brick quadrant will memorialize her and mark the Mamie Eisenhower Quadrant as Historic Gettysburg Adams County Inc plans additional dignitary plaques. The event includes remarks by Governor-elect Richard Thornburgh and Lt Gov-elect William Scranton.

Thieves Take Christmas Trees and Hemi from Homes

Police said two Christmas trees and a Hemi were stolen from Ina L. Ginevan’s property on Route 30 near Seven Stars. A second burglary at Colonel Creek Camp Grounds produced more thefts including cash. Gillan Barn Leveled By Suspicious Fire Near Emmitsburg

A large barn above Route 97 three miles northeast of Emmitsburg was destroyed by fire at 3 21 a m with firefighters from Emmitsburg and Taneytown extinguishing the blaze. The structure was beyond saving and crews prevented spread to a nearby vacant farm house. SPCA Plans 75000 Mortgage for County Shelter

Adams County SPCA board voted to secure a 75000 construction mortgage from Adams County National Bank for the Straban Two shelter project. The two year loan will convert to a regular mortgage after completion expected about April 1 with work started in October.
