Auditor General Blames County for Uncollected Support

State Auditor General Al Benedict charged Adams County Domestic Relations and counterparts statewide are largely responsible for about 129 million dollars owed by delinquent fathers whose families receive welfare. County director Kenneth Deardorff disputed the figures, saying the collection rate is not bad and that many cases are uncollectible due to locating absent fathers. The dispute centers on who bears responsibility for recouping public assistance expenditures and how welfare cooperation affects collections.

Hankey Reelected Gettysburg Chamber Leader And Officers

Ronald Hankey was reelected to a second term as president of the Gettysburg Area Chamber of Commerce on Monday. Robert J. Automobile and Dump Truck Crash Near Cumberland

An area motorist, Frank Huggins, drove out of a private drive and collided with Cerl Woerner’s westbound loaded dump truck two miles west of town on Cumberland Turnpike. Woerner’s truck rolled onto its roof. firemen stood by as it was righted. Huggins’ car sustained moderate damage. Woerner’s truck had extensive damage.

Countians Purchase Bonds in First Nine Months

United States Savings Bonds were bought in Pennsylvania during the first nine months of 1976 totaling 578,734,674 and exceeding last year’s nine month sales. Adams County residents purchased 1,020.77 worth of bonds. Chester Sayers notes strong gains while 1978 totals show continued growth in bond sales across the state.

School Board Okays Course Cuts Bus Fleet

Gettysburg Area School Board approved an intramural program with a high school PE instructor Edith Reinhart to allow senior and junior students to join. Gettysburg Budget Keeps Borough Taxes Unchanged For 1979

New Oxford Woman Bilked Out of 2300 in Shady Found Money Plot

A New Oxford woman was swindled out of 2300 after agreeing to fund a nominal share of 3100 found by a shopper at Masons Department Store in Hanover. Two suspects, a black woman and a white woman, lured her to a bank and office, then disappeared with part of the money. Police seek tips from the public.

Harrisburg AP A judge dismissed the Democrats challenge to a disputed Somerset County election ensuring the Republicans keep control of the Pennsylvania House. Judge Coffroth certified a 21 vote Republican victory for Kenneth Halverson, giving the GOP 162 109 and left Lloyd to pursue a remaining appeal before the state Supreme Court. Halverson dismissed Lloyd’s protest as a moot point and anticipated no change in outcome even if some ballots are challenged.
