Services for Stewart Wednesday

Funeral services for retired Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart will be held Wednesday at the National Cathedral in Washington. Stewart, 70, died Saturday at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center five days after a stroke at his daughter's home in Dummerston, Vermont. He retired from the high court in 1981 after 23 years and said he wanted to spend more time with his grandchildren. He was succeeded by Justice Sandra Day O'Connor.

Train Hits Car in Tivoli Three Dead

A southbound Amtrak Bear Mountain train crushed a car that entered its path in Tivoli Dutchess County. Kenneth G Bacon Jr 31 died at the scene along with Sheila R Roberts 23 and Mark A Staley 24.

Experimental cancer therapy linked to patient death at NCI

Washington reports that an experimental treatment using a hormone to mobilize white blood cells into cancer killers has killed a patient. Dr. Steven Rosenberg of the National Cancer Institute confirmed the death and cautioned that the therapy carries potentially dangerous side effects.

Tonight remains partly cloudy with lows in the mid 20s. Through Tuesday expect mostly cloudy skies with highs in the mid 30s. Wednesday brings a north snow chance and south snow and rain into Thursday. Colder air arrives with possible flurries Thursday night into Friday, with lows from the lower 20s north to lower 30s south Wednesday and Thursday and 15 to 25 Friday.
