United Way Appeals for Adams County Help to Reach 1979 Goal

Adams County United Way campaign chairman Ruth Fair urged community support to hit the 1979 goal of 212700. Drunkenness Law Amended At Emmitsburg

Emmitsburg town commissioners amended the drunkenness ordinance amid light public turnout and heavy press coverage. The change bans transporting opened alcohol containers on streets and sidewalks along with existing rules against intoxicated conditions in public places within town limits.

Gettysburg School Board Elects First Woman President

At a series of reorganizational meetings in Adams Cox county, Gettysburg elected Ms Kellett as the first woman president. She succeeds Dr Neil Beach, while Michaela Pile remains on the board. Thomas L Collins was re elected as vice president and bids were awarded for junior high construction including a 87412 payment and a 3000 removal tank change order.

18 Year Old Cascade Man Found Dead in Car Near Hickory Bridge Road

An 18 year old Cascade resident, Wayne Leroy Henderson, was found dead in his Chevrolet sedan along Hickory Bridge Farm Road near Orrtanna after failing to return from a Christmas party at Fairfield Graphics. Coroner records indicate death occurred at least a day earlier. autopsy ordered. Police ruled out foul play. discovery made by Richard Sharrah of Orrtanna R. Henderson’s parents, John and Alice Henderson, survive. Body transported to hospital by Monzhan Funeral Home in Fairfield.

Budget approves New Oxford tax cut and 31 mill plan

The New Oxford Town Council approved a 2 mill tax cut in the 1979 budget on Monday night. The budget projects expenditures of 3106700 and receipts of 3118 125, was already ratified at the November meeting and has been on display since. The vote was unanimous with parking restrictions and town center flat area actions noted.

Adams County Holiday Bureau Opens for Christmas Aid

The Adams County Holiday Bureau begins operations Monday at noon on the Gettysburg Presbyterian Church second floor. Co chairs Mrs. Charles A. Smith and Mrs. Kermit Benfer urge early donations of ready-to-use toys and cash to aid those less fortunate. Volunteers work two weeks to help as many as possible, with toy distributions set for Saturday, Dec. 16. Gifts may be given personally or anonymously, and checks are mailed to The Holiday Bureau, General Delivery, Gettysburg PA. 17325. Hours are noon to 2 p.m. for two weeks, except Friday Dec. 15 from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the High St entrance.

Robbery Suspect Charged After Lincoln Diner Incident

Brenda Lee Ramos 18 of Bendersville is charged by Gettysburg Borough Police with robbery and firearms violations in an armed robbery at the Lincoln Diner on Carlisle Street. She was arraigned with bail set at 25000 and was held after officers chased a description to York Street. No money was stolen. Investigations continue into a prior similar attack at Tastee Freez on York Street.

Lentz Legion Plans Kiddies Party and New Year Dance

The Albert J. Lentz American Legion Post outlined plans for a kiddies Christmas party on December 23 at 2 30 PM in the Eisenhower room with clowns from Tail Cedars of Lebanon a Santa visit cartoons and gifts. An 100 couple limit for the New Year’s Eve dance featuring Cappy’s Gang was set for December 31 to January 1 with proceeds going to veterans and widows and a reminder to re turn pensions paperwork before year end.
