Fire destroys large chicken house on Steven Mace farm
Early today a 300 by 40 foot chicken house on the Steven Mace farm burned. The blaze reported around 4:49 a.m. drew Farrfield and Em- fire crews to a rural location two miles south of Parr Field at Five Tree Road. Firefighters fought the blaze as the structure was consumed with flames.

Joseph Donohue, longtime Mount St. Mary’s College publicity director, will leave in January 1979 to join Burson-Marsteller in New York City. He arrived at Mt. Moonie Case Hearing Waived in Unification Church Suit
A hearing in the United States Middle District Court Harrisburg suit involving Gettysburg Mayor Charles N Lightner and Borough Police Chief Clarence H Cluck was waived by agreement of counsel. The case, set for March term, will proceed without a preliminary hearing per borough solicitor Donald G Owler.

Burglaries Reported at Two City Groceries
Borough police say Haller's Grocers on Hanover Street Gottsburg was broken into Sunday between 5 and 5:25 pm by entering through an unlocked basement door and kicking a back door. Seven cartons of cigarettes worth £35 and about $39 in damage were reported. Dengler Brothers Grocery on Lord Street was entered at 3:45 am Sunday by removing cardboard from a storefront window fan. Two jars of cookies valued at $2.15 were reported missing.

Motorcycle Burglary Hits New Oxford Harley Shop
State police report a burglary at New Oxford Harley Davidson on Lincolnway East. Thieves shattered a rear window and stole a Low Rider Harley belonging to Heel Appler, undergoing repairs, valued at 34,000. Numerous miscellaneous items including helmets and parts valued at 1,200 were also taken, totaling about 5,200.

Hospital Ball Ushers In The Holiday Spirit
The 12th annual Hospital Ball at the Sheraton featured a White Brothers performance and holiday decorations. Gettysburg College hosted a Christmas concert beforehand, while Mount Saint Maris College held a Madrigal Dinner. Warner Hospital board VP Guy Baker praised auxiliary support as donors and volunteers were thanked by ball chair Mrs. Charles Haffensperger and committee. Proceeds fund medical equipment with a financial report planned for January.

On a dreary cold day the Gettysburg YWCA hosted the traditional Hanging of the Greens the Annie Danner Club and Business and Professional Women’s Club decorated the building. Carolling tree lights and wreaths framed readings from Scripture poems and special music as Martha Weikert read St Luke’s Christmas account.

Musselman Library Center Gift Largest Ever To Gettysburg College
Gettysburg College receives 1.25 million from the Musselman Foundation of Biglerville, the largest gift in the college’s history. The library will be named Musselman Library Learmos Resources Center as campaign totals reach 3.881 million, including a 200 thousand grant from the Dana Foundation. A new site will be chosen to avoid removing existing buildings or trees, with only possible exterior redesign.

The Gettysburg College Board of Trustees approves five year terms for Dr. Chan L. Coulter as chair of the Philosophy Department and Dr. Robert M. Weekend fires from overheated stove pipes damage two homes
Overheated stove pipes from two wood stoves caused fires in two county homes Saturday. In Littlestown Norman Thomas’s attic fire originated at a kitchen pipe, with $1500 damage. Fairfield Cashtown crews battled a similar stove fire at Charles Murdoni Sr. in Orttanna, as heat spread through wall panels and a second story. Gettysburg crews contained a trash dumpster blaze by the college and a gas stove burner fire at Rider Apartments with no damages.
