Memorial Fund Established For Mrs Hicks

The 36th annual Christmas music festival at Gettysburg College will be staged this evening and Sunday at 8 in Christ Chapel. Prof. Parker B Waynild will direct the 70 voice College Choir and Prof. Dexter Weikel will lead the 7 voice Chapel Choir. The Sunday concert will be broadcast on WGET AM and FM. Adams County crime and traffic deaths rise in 11 months
State police data show 21 people died on county roads in the first 11 months, with 18 deaths in 16 accidents by state police, two more by borough police, and one by Cumberland Township. Crimes rose to 787 complaints from 667, while 195 cases led to 200 arrests. Traffic incidents numbered 753, up from 678 last year, with 63 hit and run crashes causing 527 injuries and property damage of $637,514.

Assistance Board Audit Finds Mixed Results in Adams County
Adams County's assistance board did not restitutionly require sixteen welfare payments during the period ending September 24. Auditor general reports 28.5 percent of 660 cases audited with eight percent totally ineligible and sixteen percent in error, with nine reductions and one increase in payments. The office director Simon Monforte said discrepancies stemmed from changes in recipient status after visits. The audit opened September 13 and closed September 25 with an overall “audit cleared” on November 10. Continuous notes reference administrative error overpayments and partial ineligibility.

Auto Hits Porch. two injuries in Mt Pleasant crash
An Abbottstown motorist was slightly injured when his auto rolled away and crashed into a front porch on Lincoln Highway. Dale Bosserman, 75, left the car running while he entered his home and returned to find it moving eastward, then tried to stop it. The porch owner Raymond Menges, 148 East King Street, was not seriously hurt. In Mt Pleasant two others were slightly injured when a car skidded into a tree off Route 30 near New Oxford. Clara L. Pensyl, 45, and another occupant were treated at the Baltimore Street office of Dr. Raymond F. Sheely after her eastbound Plymouth struck a tree while braking to avoid a car entering the highway. The Pensyl car sustained about 7500 damage.
