DAR To Hear Of Pa Dutch Yule Customs

Rev Frederich S Weiser pastor of Paul s Lutheran Church Biglervil and noted expert on Pennsylvania German Folk Art spoke on Pennsylvania Dutch Christmas Customs at the Gelmsburg Chapter DAR meeting in Schmucker Hall at 1:30 on Friday He described his education and roles including chaplain archivist and consultant linking Winterthur and the Pennsboros museum network He plans a 1980 Germany study tour and has translated church records while offering genealogical material to the DAR Library in Washington Good Citizen Awards and an American Flag presentation were noted along with a Girl Scout Brownie troop contribution to the NSCAR Museum in Washington.

Biglerville honors senior Melinda Warren in all state choirs

Miss Melinda Ann Warren, senior at Biglerville High, was chosen for Pennsylvania All State Choirs and selected for the ensemble to perform at the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association Convention in Hershey. She also joins the junior ensemble in January and performs with choral director Mrs. William Settle. Warren participates in multiple school ensembles and has earned Who's Who in Music and All American Hall of Fame Band Award. She plans to pursue music in college.

Car Rolls Over Injuring Three in Cumberland Township

A driver and two passengers were slightly hurt when a car left the road on Business Ridge north of Macyland border, climbed an embankment and rolled over at 12:40 a.m. Cumberland Township police said Garrs C. Currens, Erin Annis, and Daniel R. Fissel were taken to Warner Hospitalsburg, treated and discharged. Emergency crews from Greenmount Fire Department and Emmitsburg Rescue assisted at the scene.

Record Fatalities Hit County Roads in 11 Months

A county report shows 33 deaths on county roads in the first 11 months, surpassing the 1977 record of 22. November saw no highway deaths while state police logged 95 accidents with 38 injuries, 2,184 traffic arrests, and 3,393 written warnings.

Adams Transit to Start 25 Cent Area Bus Trips Monday

Adams Transit Systems expands from a county commuter broker to a public system with 25 cent fares starting Monday. Ex-Prisoner Of Indonesia To Speak Here

Former Indonesian political prisoner Carmel Budiardjo will speak at Gettysburg College in room 231 at 8 o clock Thursday evening as part of a US campaign for relief of those left behind in Indonesian prisons. She has traveled Europe Canada Australia and Japan since 1971 release and notes conditions in Indonesia. Her testimony cites hundreds of political detainees awaiting charges or trial and she seeks justice and an end to rights violations.

Grove Is Full Gospel Speaker in Adams County Dinner

Martin Grove Hanover R. 4. will speak Saturday December 9 at 6 30 am at a dinner by the Adams County Chapter of the Full Gospel Business Men's Fellowship. Reservations due by Wednesday December to one of three numbers. Grove owns Hil Top Grammar and Trucking Co. located along Hanover Gettysburg Rd near Brushtown. The chapter holds a prayer breakfast most Saturdays at the D J Restaurant and monthly at the local fire hall.

Gettysburg College Qualifies For 200000 Foundation Grant

Gettysburg College has qualified to receive a 200000 grant from the Dana Foundation toward its library resources center. President Charles Glassick announced the college surpassed a 600000 challenge goal set last December by raising 690000 in gifts and pledges, aided by Adams County and Hanover supporters. The study totals include prior grants from the Memorial Trust of Philadelphia and other donations, with overall challenge funds reaching 391,826 from Adams County and Hanover sources.

Adams County Commissioners Frida opened bids for mattresses at Green Acres and gear for the Adams County Shelter Care Unit. Three bids for 74 mattresses ranged from 3355.56 to 3356. Doc Klunk's McSherrystown offered 3355.55, McCleans Furniture Aspers 3350.33, Lemoyne Sleeper Lemoyne 6336. The renovation and furnishing of the shelter unit drew only one bid from McDonald Coase Co Genysburg for structural work and Lemoree Sleeper 3742.34 for furnishings. Fourteen Hunters Arrested in Northern Adams County Violations

A monthly report by Gary W. Becker, District Game Protector for Northern Adams County, lists fourteen hunters charged with deer season violations. Names include Wate C. Tassor, Timothy M. McCaustin, Ronald E. Wierman, John R Frey Jr. and others. The report notes illegal tagging, possession of deer parts, untagged deer transport, and hunting within safety cones. Several juveniles from Maryland and local youths faced charges for firearm and trap violations, and multiple deer were killed by vehicles or for crop damage. Waterfowl seasons have dates in December, and anterless deer rules require current licenses and reporting within five days to Harrisburg.

Adams County Building Pace Slows in November

Adams County building activity cooled in November with 67 permits valued at 31 642 700, up from 62 permits and 31 356 345 in November 1927, though November 1973 was among the year's slowest months. Homes rose in price to an average of 40 817, with only 29 house permits issued, and Mt Pleasant Two saw five planned houses, the most in the area. Permits were issued for Berwick Twp mobile home, Solo Ton garage, and one addition totaling 5 500.
