Weather Outlook: Variable Clouds Through Weekend

Wednesday brings mostly cloudy and breezy skies with a high in the upper 30s. Tonight turns clear and cold with lows 20s. Thursday features mostly sunny skies and mid 40s highs. Friday remains partly sunny with 45 to 50 degree highs and lower to mid 30s lows. Saturday sees variable clouds with 50 to 55 highs and 35 to 40 lows. Sunday includes a chance of rain and 50 to 55 high.

Ramsey parents sue Star over Burke JonBenet story

John and Patsy Ramsey filed a 25 million federal libel suit against the Star alleging a May 25 and June 1 report calling Burke Ramsey a prime suspect in JonBenet’s murder caused him public hatred. The Star vows a vigorous defense and seeks to cross-examine the Ramseys. JonBenet, 6, was killed December 26, 1996 in Boulder Colorado. no indictment yet.

Deer crashes into Fairfield home window

Gordon and Diane Ley of Fairfield awoke to a deer crashing through their living room window at 34 N Miller St at 7 a m. The animal barreled through the back bedroom and hallway then leapt through a Venetian blind before exiting. Fur blood and debris remained but the deer vanished.

Silent gatehouse at Evergreen Cemetery tells Gettysburg story

Caretaker Brian Kennell oversees a $57,000 restoration of the 1855 Evergreen Cemetery gatehouse. The two story brick structure, early Italianate in design, anchors local Civil War history and its 1863 appearance replicas are being sold to fund repairs. Kennell, a lifelong student of the site, notes the gatehouse’s link to the second day’s fighting and its role as a historic landmark.

Clinton Dines Incognito at The Carriage House

President Clinton and the first lady dined at The Carriage House in Emmitsburg Maryland on Saturday surprising guests including Deborah Gemmell of Orrtanna and Casey Counseller of Fairfield. Gemmell recalled a 15 minute warm chat and an invite for golf.
