The Adams County Office for Aging, Inc. won an 11.04 grant from Pennsylvania’s Office for the Aging to renovate a former clothing factory at 6 X Washington St for a Gettysburg Multi-Service Center. The project will add handicapped access, with meals and services for about 40 daily, aiming to relocate aging services from Prince of Peace Episcopal Church and nearby offices. Local funds of 33,682 will help total project costs of 14,726 as part of Pennsylvania’s Area Agencies on Aging system.

Littlestown Man Hurt When Car Hit By Tractor Trailer
A Littlestown man in a 1989 Chevrolet was slightly injured when his car, traveling north on Route 194, left the right side of the highway while turning into a private drive. A northbound tractor trailer from Stevensburg Virginia struck the car’s left rear, causing minor damage. Littlestown Fire Company personnel aided at the scene.

Holiday Bureau Opens Season On Monday
The Adams County Holiday Bureau begins its 23rd year on Monday at Gettysburg Presbyterian Church second door, with Mrs. Charles A. A Fairfield area fire leveled a five story frame house on Tract Road four miles south of Fairfield at 1 34 p m Thursday. Firemen from Fairfield and surrounding towns saved an unoccupied two room storage area. The Shindledeckers lost all personal possessions. Raleigh Farms Inc. of Washington area identified as the firm. Fire officials noted the roof collapse and undetermined origin. Clothing drive by Fairfield and Emmitsburg firemen assists the couple.

Shell Oil, the largest U S gasoline marketer, began trimming shipments to dealers by 25 percent with allocations for December. Brother Sister Injured In Crash Near Table Rock Road
Two children Meilisa Rudisill aged two months and Christopher Rudisill aged two were injured slightly when their mother Tammi Rudisill’s southbound 1999 Chevrolet Camaro ran out of control, tipped onto its roof, and rolled onto a steep embankment about three miles north of Cumberland Township at 2:40 p.m. Thursday. John Highland Dies in Athens and Remembrance in Arlington
John Peter Highland, longtime operator of Highlands candy shops and restaurants in Chambersburg area, died Tuesday at a sister's home in Athens Greece. His body to be returned to the United States for burial in the Gettysburg National Cemetery beside his late wife Louise Sheads. A World War I veteran, Highland served in Company A 316 Infantry 79th Division, earned a corporal rating, and saw action in Meuse Argonne and Montagne Mont. He opened Highlands Candy Kitchen on Chambersburg Street and later ran multiple eateries, eventually moving to Annapolis before establishing a business there. He was a charter member of the Albers Lenni Post of the American Legion in the area.
