Enemy Attacks Fail to Halt South Vietnam Election
Over the weekend North Vietnamese and Viet Cong forces launched nearly 100 attacks during harvest activity but did not stop South Vietnam's lower house elections. Lt. Col. Le Trung Hien called the surge a high point for enemy activity while officials reported dozens of casualties among soldiers and civilians and thousands of enemy fatalities claimed by allied forces. Hit and Run Crash on Route 30 Involves Pontiac Seated At $50 Damage
A 1964 Pontiac sedan driven by Shirley L. Fink was involved in an alleged hit-and-run at 4:25 PM Saturday in front of the Indian Village eight miles west of here. No injuries reported. Pontiac damage estimated at $50. Victim reports a white Ford station wagon as the suspect vehicle, police said.

Summer Home Destroyed By Fire Near Cross Keys
New Oxford Fire Department battled a blaze that destroyed a summer home of James Starner on Gun Club Road about 11 38 a m Sunday. Fire Chief Richard Sipe said burning trash in an open fireplace caused the fire with 2000 dollars in damage and minor damage to the adjacent dwelling. The storage structure was unused at the time. Indian Village Burglary Ends With Shot By Owner
State police seek a long blond haired burglar who possibly was wounded during a night raid in Franklin Township. Chief Split Cloud reported firing at the getaway suspect near the village workshop, with loot including antique rifles shotguns a .22 show rifle and six throwing knives. The thief fled east in a dark blue 1983 Oldsmobile or similar Maryland registered car. An accomplice is suspected and investigators continue.
