Fire damages Adams County Library in Gettysburg

A Sunday night fire at the rear of the Adams County Library in Gettysburg caused about 4 000 volumes to be ruined by smoke and water while stored for a book sale and for other libraries. The county bookmobile suffered soot and smoke exposure though its contents were largely undamaged. Deodorizing equipment was used to clear two library floors and firefighters cited books piled near an emergency generator as the fire cause. The incident prompted an estimated $2 000 in reported damage by the Fire Department, with restoration efforts expected to finish midweek.
