Police investigated a string of early morning break ins in Littlestown including the ARCO service station on Queen Street where a burglar fled on foot as officers entered. A 1969 golden Buick owned by Frank Basehoar was stolen from a garage on Pat Tick Street while a dark green Hawthorn bicycle was left behind at the scene. Other targets included Bupps Dairy and Stambaughs feed mill, all entries through rear windows. Overall five bicycle thefts and two additional gas stations yielded about 70 dollars in change.

Borough police investigated two incidents Monday night. Allen Greensburg of Bushnell Ohio said someone broke a window in his 1962 Oldsmobile and stole a $30 yellow brown knitted stole. Walter O Powell of 196 S Stratton St reported vandals damaged an aluminum front door at his home with undetermined damage.

Vandals broke into the children's zoo at West Harrison Memorial Park Monday night and killed or mutilated 21 small animals. Police say a maintenance man found plucked and skinned carcasses including two raccoons ten rabbits three chickens two pigeons and a small monkey escaped animals were the only ones unharmed.

Harry Wentz Former Local Grocer Dies at 85
Harry F. Wentz, 85, formerly of Orrtanna, died this morning at Community General Osteopathic Hospital in Middletown. A longtime York Street grocer, he later worked as a carpenter and belonged to St. James Lutheran Church and I.O.C.F. of Gettysburg. He lived the last three years at the Odd Fellows Home in Middletown and is survived by a brother and a sister. Funeral at Monahan Funeral Home Carlisle Street Friday at 2 pm with Rev. Frederick A. Two Hit Run Incidents Probe Across County Roads
State police investigate two Monday night hit-and-run crashes on county roads. A Gettysburg youth, Larry R. Jones, 17, was apprehended after his car struck three apple trees on a Fairfield property and fled the scene. A separate hit-and-run near the Route 15 bypass involved a blue tractor-trailer. Diana Sue Hockenberry, 19, escaped major injury after veering to avoid the trailer, with the operator not stopping. No injuries reported in another minor collision at Strahan Township.

Bruce Smith, assistant county agent, resigned effective September 15 at a meeting of the Adams County Cooperative Extension Association. American fighter-bombers attacked an antiaircraft battery two miles north of the DMZ in North Vietnam, triggering numerous secondary explosions. B52 bombers dropped nearly 600 tons of explosives along the DMZ as fighting continued for the 12th day. 37 North Vietnamese were reported killed, along with four South Vietnamese troops.
