Gasoline leak in Gettysburg conduits under investigation

About 300 gallons of gasoline seeped into underground conduits at North Washington and West Water Streets in Gettysburg Thursday prompting an eight hour removal by fire and borough crews. The source remains undetermined though officials believe the fuel was recently refined. An accident probe continues as workers pump from manholes and burn the gas at a remote Highland Avenue site.

Final site chosen for Cashtown Post Office plan

A final site on the east side of High Street about 300 feet north of Old Route 30 on property owned by Paul Pia was selected for the new Cashtown Post Office. The 928 square foot building will sit on a 22 815 square foot lot with two employees at peak hours. The USPS letter was read at the Adams County Supervisors meeting as they near the end of construction season.

G Henry Roth retired editor of The Gettysburg Times died at home in Gettysburg at 66 after a lengthy illness. He served as editor from 1977 to 1980 and had a lifelong record of community service with numerous civic and veterans groups. Funeral services are set for Saturday at St Francis Xavier Church after a 9:30 a.m. gathering at Monahan Funeral Home. Burial in Evergreen Cemetery. Memorials may be made to a charity.

Democrats Attack Reagan At Frederick County Candidate Night

On a rally in Emmitsburg Maryland Democrats at a candidate night attacked the Reagan administration and its policies amid a September 14 primary slate. William B McMahon challenger to Beverly Byron said Reaganomics is bankrupt of ideas selfish and unfair and blamed the president for poor economic conditions.

Gettysburg Hospital Board notes growth and upgrades

Get tysburg Hospital Board of Directors held its first public annual meeting for 1981 82 highlighting major staff growth and community involvement. Dr Leah Maitland praised staff expansion and accreditation gains while William D Myers cited new meal tray service a steak and champagne dinner for new parents and a 21st month 60 percent complete building project. Melinda Hutton outlined public relations goals to position the hospital as Adams County northern Maryland Health Center and improve community communication. The building and grounds committee reported the project is 60 percent complete after 21 months.
