Specter repudiates endorser remarks in Philadelphia

In Philadelphia Arlen Specter rejected remarks by former state Democratic chairman Larry Yatch though he did not disavow the endorsement Yatch accompanied. Yatch criticized Democratic support for women candidates and claimed campaign rhetoric suggested women should showcase certain attributes to win votes.

Gettysburg delegate calls RNC convention awesome

Pickett's Charge Recreated For Killer Angels Film At Gettysburg

Spectators lined the Emmitsburg Road as nearly 3,000 Civil War reenactors staged Pickett's Charge for Turner Network Television film The Killer Angels. Thunderous rebel yell and cannon smoke filled the field as a take was shot and later rescheduled for the afternoon. From Spangler farm the Confederate line faced the Union and Ranger Reed Eagle’s family watched nearby as a drizzle fell under overcast skies.

Littlestown approves five day Florida band trip

Littlestown Board of Education unanimously approves a five day trip to Florida for about 100 high school band members next spring. Band Boosters say costs fall on taxpayers not. fundraisers will cover most expenses, under $200 per family. The trip, for April 29 to May 3, involves three buses and three missed school days with grades required to remain acceptable.

Kilker stops in Gettysburg during campaign tour

Democratic candidate Paul V. Kilker paused in Gettysburg to listen to residents as part of his district tour. He emphasized involving people in political matters, telling workers at Stopping by & S Menswear that he aims to travel more towns before November while criticizing career politicians. Kilker is challenging nine term incumbent Rep. William F. Goodling.

Conewago Two planning input sought and meetings announced

Residents of Conewago Township may present input for the township comprehensive plan at a special meeting August 31 at 7 30 pm at the township municipal building. Township Manager Edward T Calvert reports that Tom Comitta of West Chester will report on the extensive plan study with county commissioners and planning officials present. The supervisors also approved a Building Code Ordinance enforcing BOCA CABO standards and fire safety walls. The measure sets a $25 final inspection fee for grading of developments to assure proper storm water runoff. A curfew ordinance for under 18s was also approved by Solicitor Jeffrey M Cook.
