A new water system improvement project advances in Washington Township Franklin County to quadruple water availability and raise water rates. More than 30 people gathered to learn their roles as research volunteers and group chairmen for the American Cancer Society second Cancer Prevention Study set to begin September 1.

McCabe charges dropped after hypnosis ruling

Adams County will dismiss all charges against Paul R. McCabe of Cumberland Township after the Superior Court upheld a ruling prohibiting hypnotically induced testimony. McCabe, 48, faced first degree murder and arson charges in the August 1980 shooting deaths of Nancy L. Patterson and her daughter Deborah. The Nazarovitch precedent required reliability proof for hypnosis, and the court found the testimony tainted by pre and post hypnotic suggestions.

Unemployment in York Adams area slides slightly in 1932 report

The York area unemployment rate for April through June 1932 fell from 11 percent to 16.7 percent in seasonally unadjusted terms, while the seasonally adjusted rate rose to 10.7 percent. Officials note student influx and summer layoffs as factors, with June peaking at 12 percent unadjusted and 10.7 percent adjusted.

Bonneauville water leaks fixed and street dedication eyed

The Bonneauville borough council reported two major leaks found and corrected in the sewer and water system, due to poor installation with pipes packed in rocks.
