The temperature reached 88 degrees for the 24 hour period ending 5 p.m. Thursday with a low of 51. Wednesday was sunny with highs in the low to mid 80s and west winds 5 to 10 mph. A new water system improvement project advances in Washington Township Franklin County to quadruple water availability and raise water rates. Adams County will dismiss all charges against Paul R. McCabe of Cumberland Township after the Superior Court upheld a ruling prohibiting hypnotically induced testimony. McCabe, 48, faced first degree murder and arson charges in the August 1980 shooting deaths of Nancy L. Patterson and her daughter Deborah. The Nazarovitch precedent required reliability proof for hypnosis, and the court found the testimony tainted by pre and post hypnotic suggestions.
The York area unemployment rate for April through June 1932 fell from 11 percent to 16.7 percent in seasonally unadjusted terms, while the seasonally adjusted rate rose to 10.7 percent. Officials note student influx and summer layoffs as factors, with June peaking at 12 percent unadjusted and 10.7 percent adjusted.
The Bonneauville borough council reported two major leaks found and corrected in the sewer and water system, due to poor installation with pipes packed in rocks. They also discussed dedicating streets in Bonnie Field with inspections by Charles Scott and leaks checks during the visit, plus a proposed extension of lines to connect Harry Lear to the sewer at a total cost of 7000 dollars Cont Page 2.
Engineers from Adams County Littlestown and Biglerville urged DER and EPA to change the grant allocation method for Pennsylvania sewer projects. They argued the current point system and funding shortfalls raise costs for households and called for a move to benefit-based scoring and earlier funding, with Littlestown seeking 1983 funding.
