Firemen From 27 Units Will Meet Saturday At Greenmount

Delegates from 27 area fire companies gather in Greenmount for the 56th Adams County Volunteer Firemen Association Convention. Highlights include officer elections, a 4 pm parade, a memorial service, and a roast beef dinner with the Ladies Auxiliary. Special guest Maryland State Marshal James Robertson will address the morning session.

Further Plans For Community Concert Drive

Plans for the upcoming season of the Community Concert Association of Adams County were discussed at a Public Relations committee meeting held at the home of Carl and Margaret Moul. A campaign kickoff dinner is set for Sept 25 followed by membership drives through Sept 30. Four concerts are scheduled including the New York Renaissance Band on Oct 27 and performances by pianist David Grouch on Nov 25, the Tamburitzans on Jan 4, and soprano Elizabeth Hynes on March 11.

Carroll Valley Public Forum Set on Development Plan

Carroll Valley will host its first public policy forum on Saturday August 19 at 3 30 p m in the pavilion at Carroll Common. Dr Robert J Wickenheiser will chair and assist attendees in exploring how much and what kind of development the borough should pursue. Mainstreaming Handicapped Explored In PSEA Workshop

The Gettysburg College venue hosted a Handicapped Awareness workshop sponsored by Gateway Placement Institute of Harrisburg. Dr Frans Bowe of the American Coalition of Citizens with Disabilities challenged myths about mainstreaming and explained how some children cannot be mainstreamed yet that appropriate inclusion can prevail over total segregation. He urged high standards and noted teachers should support handicapped students in regular settings where suitable.

Farview to Become Regional Prison in Pennsylvania

Gov. Shapp approved converting Farview State Hospital, the state’s only criminally insane facility, into a state and regional prison. A $322 million plan outlined by the Bureau of Corrections would start that fall, with demolition of part of the 65 year old Wayne County institution and construction of new cell blocks.

Bermudian Sp May Sue LIU For Room Rent

The Bermudian Springs Board of School Directors heard from a solicitor about ongoing negotiations with the Lincoln Intermediate Unit regarding rental recoveries. Attorneys were authorized to pursue about 37,300 in back rent for classrooms used by the LIU in district buildings during the 1972 78 school year. A committee was formed to study the LIU operation and EMR program with the board aiming for a recommendation before action.

Council Seeks To Buy Water Company in Bislerville

The Bislerville Borough Council plans to renew its offer to purchase the Bislerville Water Co from American Water Works after prior approval for financing, awaiting a reply.
