Latimore Township Marathon On Roads
Latimore supervisors and 34 residents discussed road conditions at a Monday night meeting. Planning member Robert L. Duncan pressed for road repairs and questioned the board’s use of funds, urging resignations of John L. Hinkle and Larry S. LaRue. He accused Hinkle of keeping a large township bank balance while neglecting road work, noting unfinished dust oil applications. Hinkle said remaining dust oil would be applied after proper road prep and blamed a lack of competent help. Duncan questioned road decisions and ridged Road tar and chip practices, accusing LaRue of political motives. He listed planned projects including Mill Rd and an unsafe Bridge, saying some buses travel on poor roads. He demanded action.

July Verdict Reaffirmed in Sterner Debt Case
Adams County Judge Oscar F. Spicer upheld a July verdict against Herbert H. Sterner for 20 373.12 owed to Robert E B Wagner of Hanover R D 5. Sterner argued for more credit for furniture inventory given to Wagner to reduce the debt. 25 Mile Hike Planned to Aid Lung Unit
A 25mile hike to benefit the South Central Pennsylvania Lung Association runs October 19-21. The Appalachian Trek, a 25mile weekend along the Appalachian Trail, is led by Neil G Ne rs er of the Lung Association. Court Rules Against Charge In Mellott Homicide Case
A Adams County court dismissed the homicide by vehicle charge against William L Mellott after Judge Oscar Spicer ruled Commonwealth evidence failed to prove criminal negligence. Mellott, 43, of 25 Lancaster St Mechanicsburg area, faced trial for the April 8 crash on Rt 94 that killed Sandy Heatherly. Mellott had pleaded not guilty. his attorney argued evidence could not establish criminal negligence.

Incinerator at Rice Hall Sparks Smoke and Alarm
Smoke from an open incinerator at Rice Hall Gettysburg College at 2 19 pm Monday triggered a fire alarm as teachers at a leadership workshop noted the smoke. Security director James Treas said maintenance caused the lid to pop open and leak smoke into the hallway. Firemen remained on scene until 3 pm. At 3 02 pm Biglerville and Arendisville fire units were sent to Kennies Market on S Main St Biglerville for a separate alarm due to a faulty automatic system.

Emmitsburg Burgess resigns amid praise for town
Emmitsburg’s Burgess E Eugene Myers suddenly resigns after a routine meeting, offering no reasons and praising townspeople and commissioners. Jane Bollinger will serve as burgess until a new term is filled, as state highway officials plan a public meeting at 7 30 p m on August 23. Police order targets all violators of controlled dangerous substances with no exceptions. A hearing is set for August 20 in Frederick for a separate water line dispute and related costs.

Visitation Declines 52 Percent in Gettysburg
Donald Shoemaker president of the Gettysburg Travel Council reported a 52 percent drop in Gettysburg visitation from July of last year. He attributed the decline to gasoline shortage inflation regional Three Mile Island and polio scares. The council is launching a major advertising push with Gettysburg ads in over 30 regional papers and Pennsylvania TV. It runs its own full service agency, Gettysburg Advertising Agency, and invites businesses and professionals to join the Council to help revive activity.

To Dye Creek Red For Test
