Plan Fight To Get State To Build Rt 30 Bypass Soon
Gettysburg borough leaders and neighboring townships with the National Park Service voted to press the state to build the Rt. 30 bypass at an estimated ten million dollars. A five member committee from Gettysburg Cumberland NPS advisory council Straban Twp and county commissioners will carry the initiative to the state level and pursue related regional concerns. The push follows a pledge by NPS Director George Hartzog to back the project and comes amid a warning from County Planner Callenbach that state highway officials want the bypass deprioritized.

A pair of local motorists escaped injury in a $500 auto collision at the Post Office driveway on E High Street at 5 25 on Wednesday. Clinton M Slanget 166 York Street pulled from the driveway into a westbound auto driven by Barbara Ann Klunk Gettysburg Route 5. Police estimated 250 damage to Slanget s 1965 Pontiac and to Klunk s 1965 Chevrolet.

Ky Disqualified From Presidential Race By Court Ruling
SAIGON AP The Supreme Court ruled Ky did not qualify as a candidate for the October 3 presidential election leaving only President Nguyen Van Thieu and retired Gen. Duong Van Minh as qualified contenders. The decision cited 39 of Ky endorsements from provincial and municipal councilmen as duplicates of Thieu endorsements, rendering them invalid. Thieu had 452 council signatures and 104 assembly endorsements, while Minh's petition included 27 deputies and 17 senators.

A Littlestown man, Bernard J. Kuhn, 57, fell ill last May and is now paralyzed from the waist down at Hershey Medical Center. A friend started the Barney Kuhn Fund to aid Mrs Kuhn and four sons, 15, 13, 11 and 3, with living expenses. Donations are received via Littlestown Post Office box 182 and 16 canisters placed in local businesses. The fund is for household costs, not medical bills, and ads began in The Gettysburg Times.

Astronaut Alfred Worden, tethered to a 15 foot lifeline, performed humanity’s first deep space walk from Apollo 15’s Endeavour mission.
