Adams County begins 1983 gypsy moth spraying program

Adams County will accept applications for the 1983 residential gypsy moth spray program with a five dollar fee due September 1. Applications available at the county offices and four public meetings. DER will approve eligible properties and decide funding share, with spraying anticipated next spring.

Lincoln Intermediate Unit expands volunteer program LOVE

Liberty Township delays action on SCATCOM franchise

Liberty Township Supervisors tabled final approval of an ordinance granting SCATCOM Inc. a cable TV franchise, after tentative approval last month. The delay comes as Supervisor Billy Brent plans to testify at a September 7 hearing in Harrisburg on state franchise rights and antitrust concerns.

Adams County board rejects advisory nuclear freeze ballot

Adams County Board of Elections rejected a request by 14 members of the Adams County Nuclear Freeze Campaign to place a non binding nuclear freeze question on the November ballot. The board adopted a policy to limit referenda to questions provided by state law and said opinion poll style questions are not permitted. The group urged the election board to place a question on production testing and deployment of nuclear weapons. The board said it would be sued if it acted without state authority and suggested the group seek action from Congress.
