Trooper Kornaski retires after 18 years of service

Trooper Jerome J. Kornaski of the Gettysburg barracks ends 18 years with the Pennsylvania State Police at age 41. He joined Jan 27, 1972, spent much of his duty at Gettysburg and the scuba unit, and will pursue a full-time photography business in McSherrystown with his family.

Adams County Young Woman of the Year set for Saturday

Adams County's first Young Woman of the Year will be chosen at 8 p.m. Saturday at Littlestown High School. Seven candidates from Bermudian Springs New Oxford and Littlestown high schools compete in scholastic achievement fitness presence and performing arts with a 2000 dollar first prize and 500 dollar runner up plus 50 dollar individual category awards.

Day care rules force Straban home to reduce to four to six kids

A Straban Township woman operating a private day care for up to 12 children without a license will cut back to four to six unrelated children under state DPW plans. The agency warned her to comply within the month and may conduct unannounced inspections to ensure the minimum standards are met.

Adams County day care providers urge licensed options

Three Adams County women running day care homes urge parents to choose registered or licensed providers. They note tax incentives and state meal subsidies, warn against unlicensed centers, and say typical charges run about 50 dollars per child per week for about 55 hours of care.
