Weatherization program plan eyed by SCCAP board

SCCAP board hears a preliminary plan to turn weatherization into a money earning venture. Executive director Jean Odom says the idea is serious but in early stages as funding pressure grows. Proposals include selling weatherization packages, energy audits, insider storm windows, and acting as a minority contractor for federal and state funded projects to create jobs in Adams and Franklin counties.

Weekend weather outlook with warm Friday highs

The forecast calls for sunny breezy and mild Friday with highs in the low to mid 60s. Fair and Baenia will see lows in the upper 30s to mid 40s. Sunny and warmer conditions expected with a mid 70s high. Probability of precipitation near zero through Friday night. West winds 10 to 15 mph Friday.

Adams County to spray Gypsy moths on Bear Mountain

Adams County plans to spray about 56 of 72 Bear Mountain properties under a state funded gypsy moth program after many owners changed positions or accepted a 100 foot setback. Spraying will occur in May after egg hatch. Some owners may hire private applicators for remaining properties.

College students aid handicapped through Lincoln House program

Twenty Gettysburg College juniors living at 41 W Lincoln Ave in the Lincoln House donate weekly time to Bell Socialization Club activities for mentally handicapped adults in Adams County since September. They plan cooking classes ceramine lessons bowling dances and a 26 mile bike-a-thon that raised 50 for Bell Club and a 28 hour dance marathon to start tonight continuing into Saturday.
