Electrical fire blamed on roof malfunction in Gettysburg

Fire officials ruled the Gettysburg Item Co building blaze likely started by an electrical malfunction in the roof. No arson found after joint state and borough investigations. Fire crews cleared rubble, salvaged more than 200 rolls of newsprint, as Goetz Excavating assisted with lifting and extinguishing hot spots.

Gasoline in good supply in area says managers

Five Gettysburg area gas station managers interviewed say 1982 should differ from 1979 with abundant supply and falling prices. Regular gas around 1.14, unleaded near 1.22, with some stations selling regular as low as 1.06 and nine-tenths. premium and super near 1.46.

County Assessor Resigns in Adams County

Adams County Chief Assessor John E Snyder will resign in June to return to auto sales and repair work. He cited health and stress from the job as reasons. County officials accepted the letter of resignation at Friday’s meeting. Snyder plans to reopen his used car sales business and auto body shop. He had been appointed chief assessor in March 1981 and had overseen a new system hiring part time assessors to replace elected municipal assessors.
