Commissioners seek probe of magistrate in Adams County

Adams County Commissioners requested the Pennsylvania court system's court administrator to review District Justice Harold R. Deardorff's office operations. The Judicial Inquiry Review Board has opened an inquiry. The move, not a criminal probe, aims to identify procedural problems and responsibility. Deardorff noted the Arendtsville office closure and acknowledged past audit warnings about escrow funds and late warrants.

Auditors warn Adams County justices on accounts

Adams County auditors warned three district justices to clean up escrow accounting practices after a February 1990 in house audit found money not bail or security being improperly held. Amounts were small but required rewriting many accounts and returning funds. Zepp’s district three escrow was in order.
