Gettysburg College Seeks New Partnership With Greek Groups

Gettysburg College President Gordon Haaland announced a new partnership with national and local Greek organizations shaping a Standards and Expectations Document for fraternities and sororities. The agreement, announced in Washington during a Greek issues session, aims to implement rules for housing and operations, with a May trustees vote and a revised pledge process.

Gettysburg panel eyed for park land issues advisory

Gettysburg officials plan an 11 member advisory commission to guide land purchases and easements for the Gettysburg National Military Park and Eisenhower site. Members will include local officials, Adams County reps, a state preservation official, two residents with park knowledge, and a landowner with park interests, plus the NPS director or designee. The panel’s staggered three year terms aim to formalize coordination with local governments and historic preservation by meeting at least twice yearly.

Littlestown helps launch state safety campaign

A dozen Littlestown High School students joined statewide Drive Smart kickoff in Harrisburg. Sponsored by PennDOT, the program targets 35 risky driving behaviors to educate new and seasoned drivers. SADD members attended the event with teachers, state troopers, PennDOT staff, and race car legends including Richard Petty, honorary chairman of Highway Safety Month. Petty signed Drive Smart boards as 508 billboards will be placed statewide.

Sludge dispute voiced by Huntington Township officials

Huntington supervisors and residents voiced concern over Penn Township allowing sludge to be spread on Enud Hermansen and Sons Farm in Huntington Township. Penn officials said they plan to merge agricultural utilization permits to better manage sites. Hermansen said the sludge is human manure tested by the environment agency. Local supervisor Weidner threatened to protest to the state DER and urged residents to write letters as well.
